Re-Evaulating Priorities and the Re-Launch of My Blog!


So for those of you who are unaware since I find so many ways to get around it in convos by playng up my part-time nothings, I have yet again joined the ranks of the unemployed since a month ago. I haven't gone crazy with my copious amounts of free time yet, but it's getting there.

What has happened though is that with this new found freedom, I have started blogging again for a spa review website called Pretty City, where I'm going to share my knowledge of all things beauty... with all the products I use, you know that's a lot of firsthand knowledge! I began thinking about how much I've neglected my personal blog. I am always hesitating to write and forever coming up with excuses as to why I don't write and then realized that the formula I tried to create way back in the day was way too restricting. My life is chaos and I am all over the place as my blog should be!

Then I was reading an article on targeting Twitter account traffic (Thanks for the article suggestion Manisha!) and the gist of the article was to give your followers what they want... and the epiphany came! What is everyone always asking me?! "How do you hear about all these events?!" So what am I going to do? I'm going to share my knowledge with all of you! Any invite I happen to stumble upon, I'm going to share it right here. That way, you know what I know...sort of! AND I'll free up space on my Facebook profile from my constant sharing! These are all events that I attend or would if my schedule isn't free sometimes. I can't guarantee it's always a good time as some can attest to, but it is what it is!

Now, will it just be invites? Probably not. It will probably be articles I think are interesting. Websites I might stumble across. Non-beauty related items I think are must-haves. But it will lack the same structure that my life does!

I already have some upcoming event invites to post, so I hope you're ready! Feel free to follow the blog too so you're always in the know... Things in this city happen at the speed of lightning and if you can't keep up, you miss out!

Look Out Below!: A Rooftop Bar worth checking out for Bar Thursday


In keeping with the momentum of today and the sweltering weather compared to yesterday's flurries, I have decided to share a rooftop bar I stumbled across while researching for a place for one of my friend's bdays: Me Bar. The place is actually pronounced "May" Bar, with an accent over the "e," the Korean word for mountain, which is represented in its' sky high locale. While I haven't actually been there as of yet, this is one of those places I aspire to visit, especially during the summer when rooftop bars are a hot commodity to come by.
Located on the 14th Floor of Murray Hill's La Quinta Inn, Me Bar is one of the few places that has a heated rooftop area that is open year round. The quaint lounge with a view of the Empire State Building, has been covered by the likes of the NY Post, USA Today, New York Magazine, Time Out New York, and included in Shecky's 2006 edition of Bar, Club & Lounge Guide. The place is also praised on my favorite website since Citysearch, Yelp, for being one of the last unpretentious rooftop bars in the city. (Although one of my personal fave rooftop bars is Brass Monkey. If you watch Bravo as much as I do, you've caught Brass Monkey as the place that Kelly and Bethenny had their infamous "chat"!)
Some of the downsides of the bar is that it is said to be open until "at least midnight," which isn't very promising for a late nightcap, and the Shecky's article warns to call ahead since the place is usually closed for private parties, which takes the greatness of a spontaneous stop out of the question.
Fret not. The website, with it's humorous speech bubbles very reminiscent of Perez's unsuspecting post-edit comments, will show you the place doesn't take itself too seriously and might be worth checking out amidst its' faults.

I Shall Name You "Bar Thursday"!!

Since I never went a full week of blogging, I never decided what Thursday would be, so I've decided that on Thursdays I will share with you all bars that either I have visited and am obsessed with, since I'd like to give you some first hand perspective, or places I desperately would like to visit but have no time to do so due to my indentured servitude at my job.

Today I will share with you a place that falls into the first of the two categories, and the name of the place is called, Common Ground. I stumbled onto this place last year during one of my Happy Hour Club (yes, I even had organized drinking occasions!) excursions. The place looks like a study/library straight out of Clue. Our president at the time suggested the place due to the happy hour and appetizer specials, in addition to the fact that you can play board games while indulging on both. The first time I visited I was preoccupied, running to Happy Hour Club and running from Happy Hour Club, as per usual triple booking myself, so I really didn't get to experience all the greatness that is Common Ground!

However, I recently revisited Common Ground in February for Happy Hour, and let's just say we were feeling so great when we left that we ended up down in Village until well after 3 that night! Some of the specials that I gravitate towards are the $2 pints of Yuengling and Miller Lite, while my friend took advantage of the $5 Cosmos and Apple Martinis, that she literally had to water down!

True to my love of food and eating grandious amounts of it, you really can't beat the buy one get one appetizers and paninis! It really tastes like gourmet food and I don't think that's the alcohol talking. The selections that I personally had that I would recommend the brie and apricot crostini, the bacon avacado cheddar and onion panini and last but certainly not least the almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon as recommended by our very attentive waitress. It was so good we wrapped it up in our friend's pocketbook, much like a poor man's doggy bag and saved it for our friend, the bacon expert, to judge for herself; she concurred that this was truly not a dish to be missed.

As far as the scene goes, it is slightly conducive to meeting people. My friend, unknowingly grabbed the only table that was open, which just happened to be where all the board games were kept, so we had a frequent flow of patrons coming our way... most were gay. Being the single ladies we are, we didn't see any potential husbands, but it's not to say Mr. Right couldn't be there on another night. There are comfortable couches in the front and back, but the early bird gets the worm and since it was Friday, that was not us. I would definitely recommend this place for after work drinks and food, or a low key birthday party.

Time For A Laugh, It's Website Wednesday





Hey Everyone! So writing the Crucial Element article has sparked my blog writing bug again, so let's start this blog thing again with Website Wednesday. If you guys like to laugh as much as I do, you will enjoy the Someecards website. Most of you might be familiar with this website if you were ever all about bumper stickers on Facebook, since most of the politically incorrect ones were thanks to the website. If you are a sarcastic person, such as myself, you will appreciate the way that the e-cards are worded to commemorate forced occasions, such as apologies and graduations. Someecards even has cards that comment on current events, such as College Basketball, the changing seasons, current technology, and the economic climate, as above, among other topics.
So if you feel inclined to let someone know you're thinking about them, keep up with the times, send an e-card, and while you're at it, send one from Someecard, and show them just how much you care!

What is it about our sneaker preference that defines us? Is it the style? The brand? The color? It’s astounding to think that sneakers are such a prominent part of everyone’s wardrobe when they only became a mainstream product half a century ago. Sneakers were mainly reserved for athletes until James Dean made a statement with them in the 1950’s. From there, sneaker culture was born and took on a life of its’ own.


You can find a sneaker specialized for everything from playing golf to Ipod compatibility! There are not only websites using sneakers as their sole topic, but also documentaries on the rise of sneaker culture and even online web channels focusing around the phenomenon, such as Obsessive Sneaker Disorder Channel on the Mongulus website. What other wardrobe item can you think of that people will line up for at hours at a time to get the next new thing? While sneaker collecting seems to be a male dominated hobby, they always say women love their shoes, which does in fact include sneakers. Sneaker culture has even spawned its’ own language! New York is by nature more daring with fashion experimentation than other geographical areas and this rings true with sneaker fads. New York is considered more urban than most areas and since sneaker trends are mainly urban culture-based, sneaker trends tend to be born and implemented here. Jeff, the “Assistant Director of Freshness,” at Sneaker Bistro, a popular boutique sneaker store here in New York, states it best when he brings up the point, “They don't call Nike Air Force 1’s ‘Uptowns’ without having good reason.” Jeff also feels that small boutique stores like Sneaker Bistro help set the trends for the larger stores based on what the best sellers are. The fact that they have a blog, (http://www.sneakerbistro.blogspot.com/) helps them to stay current with the technologically advanced consumers and stay informed as to what their customers are gravitating towards sneaker-wise.

While sneakers in the functionality-sense are considered a necessity, sneaker collecting on the other hand is considered a luxury. Much like other facets today that are affected by the recession, sneaker purchases have also been affected and have been cut back a significant amount due to its’ seemingly frivolous nature. Jeff has observed, “What a lot of people are doing now is being more selective. Rather than continually grabbing new releases at three or four at a time, they are following the online blogs and forums and selectively choosing the product.”

What are companies doing to stimulate the sneaker industry and get the public to buy again? Much like the rest of the fashion world, they are tapping today’s up and coming talent in the Entertainment Industry to hopefully engage those that idolize these individuals and want to dress like them. Some of these celebs include Hayden Panettiere, Ashley Tisdale, JoJo, Brandy, Ashlee Simpson, Christina Aguilera, and the list goes on. Two actors from Gossip Girl specifically, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick have been featured in the most recent ads for Reebok and K Swiss respectively. And according to Jeff as far as buying trends go, diehards are still out buying regardless. “What we have noticed with our clientele is that Sneakerheads buy sneakers even when times are bad. If companies keep putting out fresh sneakers, people are going to buy them.”

Sneaker culture isn’t something you can study in a book. You can’t Wikipedia it. It’s learned through observation of those you surround yourself with, be it the B Boys in “the Cage” at West 4th, to the hip hop dancers at Broadway Dance Center. Each clique has a style all their own, one that can even be clearly defined just by their sneakers. Sneaker styles may go out of style, but sneakers as an entity will always be current because of their comfort level and consideration as a staple to every wardrobe, be if for fitness or for fashion statement. Sneakers are a way for a person to show their inner personality on the outside for the world to see. What are you wearing?
